Travel Diary: St. George, Utah

This month I went on the most amazing trip ever!! My boyfriend and I met some of our friends who live in Salt Lake City, Utah and together we all drove down to St. George and later The Grand Canyon! It was an incredible experience and I am so thankful we were able to go. We flew out from Boston Thursday night and landed in SLC at 2:00 am. Our wonderful friend picked us up from the airport and we all got a good nights sleep before our long drive the next day.

We woke up around 11 am, showered, and headed to In-N-Out Burger (of course!). Being from the east coast I have only had In-N-Out one time before, when I was in Utah last year.

The drive down to St. George was long, about 4 hours, but so much fun! We played games in the car and passed so many beautiful sights. Our friends made us take a picture on the giant chair at the Beaver gas station- so cute!

We finally made it to St. George and the view from our back porch was picture perfect! I couldn’t believe it. In St. George we went grocery shopping for lunch and dinner for the next few days and got to bed early for our big hike at Zion National Park in the morning!

Hiking The Narrows was incredible, I had never done a hike like it. The canyon is so narrow and the river covers the bottom- at some points the water gets up to your waist! The cool water and shade made it the perfect hike for a hot summer day.

The Narrows was such a cool hike because about halfway through it wasn’t a clear and easy path. We came across obstacles that we had to maneuver above, under, or around. It was challenging and so much fun!

I wore athletic shorts and an athletic tank top that dried quickly. My Keen watershoes were perfect for this hike! They’re so cute and perfect for hiking, boating, etc. I have the Newport H2 shoes in the color Hot Coral and I highly recommend. On the hike I carried my North Face backpack and put my phone and some money in a plastic bag to protect it from the water. To take all the pictures I used my GoPro HERO Session. (I am planning on doing a blog post on a GoPro beginner pack soon!) I just took lots of videos and then using the GoPro application on my phone or laptop extracted photos from the videos.

That night we grilled burgers and played games at the house. In the morning (Sunday) we drove to the Grand Canyon North Rim, which was about 3 hours away. I had never been to the Grand Canyon before and was blown away by the views. I couldn’t comprehend how big it was and how far it went. I am so glad we made the trip over. It was also my first time in Arizona!

After the Grand Canyon we drove back to St. George and stopped at a cute antique shop on the way. When we got home there was a real tumbleweed at the front door. I was cracking up and so amazed that they were real and blowing around like in the movies.

This was our last day in Utah, I didn’t want to leave! In the morning we woke up early and packed up the house. We then went to the Sand Hollow Reservoir in the St. George area to go cliff jumping! It was so much fun and the water was very refreshing on the over 100 degree day. The first jump was pretty scary but after that it was pure fun! We brought chairs to sit on the cliffs and relax and also hung out in the water sitting on a large rock perfectly placed in the water.

Driving back to Salt Lake City to go to the airport was sad! I had so much fun over the weekend and wasn’t ready to leave. Back in Salt Lake we got Cafe Rio for dinner and then got to the airport. My flight home was a disaster with delays, boarding and un-boarding twice, etc. but nothing could ruin the amazing trip I had. Although it was short, it was jam-packed with fun. Until next time St. George!!
